How Do I Update My Walmart App Without Losing My Savings Catcher Money

4 Ways To Use Walmart's Savings Catcher You May Not Know AboutMy sister is a couponer extraordinaire. She is the one in line ahead of you who gets 85% off once the coupons are tallied.  I have never been able to master that level of savings, but I do what I can. One of the methods I use is the Walmart Savings Catcher which involves downloading the Walmart app onto your phone, scanning the QR code from your store receipt, and then letting Walmart ad match for you. If a lower price is found, you get money back in the form of an e-gift card (so far I've gotten over $40 back).

For the first several months I only used the app to save money, but the more familiar I became with the app, the more uses I found for it. Let me share four of the ways I use Walmart's app that have really been helpful to me when I am out shopping at Walmart or even at any other grocery store.

Retrieving Receipts – Unlike some other big box stores, Walmart has a pretty user-friendly return policy. However, there are times a return might be difficult without a receipt. Did you know Walmart's Savings Catcher stores a digital copy of your actual receipt? Open up the Walmart app, then open the menu in the upper left hand corner. Click on Purchase History and then select the appropriate shopping trip. In the upper right hand corner, find the icon that looks like a ripped page. Click that and you will be looking at your receipt from that purchase date, including the bar-code. This can be used for returns. Notice that you can also share the receipt!

Searching for Past Purchases –I was recently standing in front of a shelf full of brats and sausages trying desperately to remember which brand it was that my son had loved so much. I knew it was made from chicken and that it was spicy, but there were several that fit that description. I opened up my Walmart app planning to search through several receipts, line by line. That is when I noticed the search feature you see in the image below. I typed in the word chicken and in a matter of seconds I found the brand name and picture of the chicken sausages I was looking for. This could be useful in any store, not just at Walmart.

Checking Prices on Items Previously Purchased –This feature is especially useful if you are not at Walmart and want to know if the store you are at is offering a competitive price. I used this feature the other day when the grocery store I was in had coffee on sale. I was pretty sure that the sale price was still higher than Walmart's normal price, so I looked up what I had paid at Walmart the previous week. I was right and I was glad I did not buy the coffee simply because it was on sale. (UPDATE: You can also use the Barcode feature in the app to scan items to see how much they cost while you are in Walmart or at other stores!)

Checking How Often You Buy Something –Finally, by using the search feature, you can see just how often you are buying a product. For example, type in cookies and see how many times you have purchased cookies, if you dare. Or better yet, use this feature to see how many jars of peanut butter you buy in six months so that when it is dramatically discounted you will know how many to buy during that 10 for $10 sale.

So what did I miss?  Is there another way you use this app?  Please share!
