Howdy, I do not recommend deleting wordpad as information technology is office of the Os. It might not be a commuter or a disquisitional system file, but in that location is no need to delete Wordpad. Just set Give-and-take equally the default app and create a shortcut on the desktop to Word. Again, I practise not recommend deleting it. I blazon 100wpm.  If I quickly hit the Windows fundamental, type "word" and so striking Enter, I get WordPad, even though I've opened Discussion many times, fifty-fifty though "Word" is a closer match to "word" than WordPad is, fifty-fifty though the last programme that I opened with that text was Word.  This sucks.  I want my fast Start Menu back.  The current Windows ten build is terrible -- there's a second or 2 of lag every darn fourth dimension I offset up a programme and I want at to the lowest degree one program to work correctly if I type rapidly.

I found http://winsupersite.com/windows/removing-windows-components-later on-installation-windows-2000 and like articles that mention editing a sysoc.inf file like http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/09/15/how-to-uninstall-windows-components-and-programs-that-arent-listed-in-addremove-programs/

But even though I take "testify hidden files" checked and I've unchecked the "hibernate protected files" there doesn't appear to exist a sysoc.inf file anywhere on my C drive (at least at that place isn't one in the inf folder and the Folder Explorer tin't find 1 in the C drive).

At that place has to be some way to remove this rubbish quirk of the beginning menu and the simplest thing would seemingly exist to just remove WordPad.  I accept Notepad for quick notes, I have Word for complex stuff, I don't need WordPad.

Edit: Figured it out, follow the instructions to make yourself the owner, then after the 2nd "got it" argument, follow the instructions to edit your permissions for that object that you're possessor of.

I've tried the following:

Right click on Accessories folder at C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories

Click on Properties on the popup.

Click the Security tab at the top and so click Avant-garde under the second inset.

You lot'll go an "Advanced Security Settings for <whatsoever y'all clicked on>" window.

In that location isn't an Owner tab, only at that place is a "Change" link by the Owners proper name.

Get a "Select User or Group" popup.

Either blazon in a name in the box or...

Click Advanced, and then click the Notice Now button on the right (limit the listing size by clicking the Object Types push button in the pinnacle of the window and unchecking types that you don't want to meet, for instance if yous uncheck everything merely users, y'all'll just see a list of users), then click OK.

Having done that, back in the "Advanced Security Settings for <whatever you lot clicked on>" window, you'll at present come across the name of that user or group or whatsoever listed every bit the Owner for <any you clicked on>

Withal, even when I'k logged in as that user, or as part of that group (administrators), it still says that I need permission from <me> or <my group> to delete the file.

How do I give myself permission for that?

Edit: Got information technology.

Having added yourself as Possessor, close the Properties boxes so you're looking at the base file again.

Go back in, and this time select yourself from the "Permission entries" table under the Permissions tab.

Click the Edit button that now appears underneath.  In the popup box click the checkbox to requite yourself full control over the folder, and all sub folders and sub files.

Click Ok.  At this point I clicked the "make inheritable" push to brand sure the permissions were practical to all sub folders/files.

I kept clicking "Ok" until I was out of the properties popup windows.

At this betoken, I was able to delete the Accessories folder in C:\Program Files\Windows NT that contains the WordPad file.

I also deleted the WordPad shortcut from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Commencement Carte\Programs\Accessories

LOL, I think that you hate the Windows accessories. So y'all've taken ownership and deleted everything under accessories folder? Why don't you endeavor to delete Net Explorer and your drivers? I'g joking, don't do this . Now, seriously, why you didn't simply created a shortcut to WordPad or pinned WordPad in the taskbar? It would've been so much easier and faster. I hope that the next build will restore your accessories. Past the manner you're correct, Word is a closer match to "give-and-take" than WordPad. Did you try setting WordPad as default programme for everything it tin can open?

LOL, I recall that you hate the Windows accessories. So y'all've taken ownership and deleted everything nether accessories binder? Why don't you try to delete Internet Explorer and your drivers?

Oh, one of the commencement things I did after installing Windows ten was to remove Net Explorer, but that's actually listed in the "Windows components" linked from the Add/Remove Programs dialog, so information technology was relatively painless.  I've found that, even if you set a different browser to open all .htm and .html and every other possible variant of internet "thing", and set that other browser to exist the default, Windows will still sometimes default to an IE window when some program wants an net browser window opened.  If you remove IE completely, though, then Windows will actually employ whatever browser you gear up as the default and you won't have that problem anymore.

That being said, I don't hate the Windows accessories.  I honey Paint, and I love Notepad.  I can see where that impression might have come from, by deleting the Accessories folder, simply the just things in the Accessories folder in the "Plan Files/Windows NT" binder are WordPad-related things

You didn't remove information technology - you removed admission to information technology. Non the same thing at all.

In this screenshot, it says I turned it off.  I believe that ways that at least some files have been uninstalled, since some spoon.net features depend on particular files and I'grand told that those files aren't installed, whereas if I plow IE on, then those files are installed.
